Zola Blood – Play Out

Zola Blood‘s Meridian was definitely one of our favorite debut EPs of the past year, so we can only be happy to hear that they’re back with a new single. The Hackney four-piece have indeed unveiled a new single called Play Out, which has a heavier sound than the songs on the Meridian EP. Recorded between London and Leeds with veteran producer Richard Formby (Wild Beasts, Ghostpoet, Darkstar), Zola Blood have dabbled with a room full of vintage synthesizers, creating a dense sound punctuated by thumping beats and influenced by techno, where only Matt West’s ethereal voice brings a glimmer of light through the pounding pace of the song.

Zola Blood said about Play Out: “We wanted every sound on the tracks to be totally unique. We even put the drums through a modular synth.

Play Out will be released through Pond Life Songs on September 4th.
