White Peaks – Veils

After seeing his name rising through the blogosphere last year, Matt Carrington a.k.a. White Peaks focused in seeking new sonic landscape opportunities during the last months. A new release and live shows will come next summer and Veils, the new single from the Brighton-based musician, is just the first intriguing snatch of what we’ll get in the early future.

Mixing shoegaze and dream-pop elements, Veils floats on the edge of emotions, carried by Carrington’s choked vocals through reverberated, sharp guitar lines and ducking pads on the background.

Regarding the choice of his stage name, Carrington explains: “I came up with the White Peaks name after flying over the Pyrenees on the way to Barcelona. We had such bad turbulence and I thought that our plane would fall out of the sky. I wanted to convey the expansive nature of the songs with the name and I feel like this one fits the bill nature of the songs with the name and I feel like this one fits the bill“.

White Peaks’ work may be the closest thing to M83’s Saturdays = Youth that we’ve listened in ages, which is definitely an excellent thing. Listen to Veils below.
