Sorcha Richardson – Walk Away

It’s not the first time that we feature music from Dublin native, New York based singer/songwriter Sorcha Richardson. The more observant will remember her last year’s single Petrol Station, a smooth R&B-tinged number that amassed a ton of plays on Soundcloud. After having spent the last year working on new music, she’s finally ready to share it with us, starting from the new single Walk Away, a song that immediately marks a change of course for Richardson’s sound. Stashed away the electronic frills, it’s a track marked by a persistent bassline that drags the song down into a dark, raw vibe.

Speaking to NYLON on her new course, Sorcha Richardson said: “In the past, I’d written almost exclusively on an acoustic guitar or piano. A few months ago, I borrowed a friend’s bass, took it home, and wrote and recorded a demo of ‘Walk Away’ in my bedroom that night. I had just decided to scrap an EP that I’d spent the last few months working on and wanted to spend some time changing the way I was making music. Without really meaning to do so, I started writing in a way that was far more honest than anything I had done before. I stopped trying to disguise the thing or person I was writing about and stopped thinking about how uncomfortable it would be to have to sing the songs in front of them.

Expect more music from her soon. Meanwhile, listen to Walk Away below.
