Snow Culture – No Sleep

They’re a brand new duo hailing from Sweden, mysteriously call themselves as “A” and O” and have nothing less than Neon Golden Records (Charlie XCX, Christine and The Queens) on their back. Not bad if you want to grab the attention of us music nerds. They’re called Snow Culture and No Sleep is their first ever offering, a hypnotic dark-pop tune with a cinematic atmosphere that has a “slow” start before exploding in a synths/marimba euforia. O talks about No Sleep as “a song about refusing to close your eyes” and you can feel that sense of tension and anxiety all along the track which, in a way, has something that recalls me of a crime drama soundtrack.

“We shared similar experiences and had both grown a bit tired, musically and personally, of trying to please so many people around us,” says A for Interview Magazine who premiered the track. “We wanted to create, for ourselves, without any outside input or ‘rules.’ We didn’t even tell anyone. We just did it, for us.”

The track comes with a lo-fi gloomy video directed by Andreas Öhman/Maja Kin which was filmed in Stockholm at night and has an overall obscure aesthetic which is reminiscent of the one of fellow citizens The Knife.
