Roch – Closer

Going Solo has a new favourite: ROCH, a 20-year-old London-based singer/songwriter and sculpture student at Central St. Martin’s. She has released today her debut single Closer, an emotional guitar ballad driven by her high and flickering voice.  Choosing to built the track with a very sparse instrumentation and few echo-laden guitar effects (reminiscent of the works of Daughter and Soak), ROCH has clearly decided to place the emphasis on the intimate, straight lyrics.

Speaking with The Line Of Best Fit, which hosted the premiere of the song, the young artist said that “‘Closer’ came out of a dilemma where I felt unable to act on something of real importance for somebody I really care for…“, adding that the song was influenced by The Diving Bell and The Butterfly. Also according to TLOBF, ROCH is currently working with Ben Christophers (Bat For Lashes), Richard Frenneaux (Laura Welsh), and Leo Abrahams (Wild Beasts) and other impressive names in the music business. So we can only hope that more music by ROCH will come soon up to our ears, because if Closer was just a taste, now we definitely want to try the entire cake.
