RHYS – Last Dance

Stockholm-based artist RHYS debuted last year with Swallow Your Pride, a brooding track that already hinted the great vocals skills of the 19-year-old Swedish singer. Her latest offering sounds like a real breakthrough single though: titled Last Dance, it blends RHYS’ delightful vocals and classy electronic-pop textures before flowing into an EDM-tinged chorus that already feels like summer.

The most amazing thing for my ears though, it’s that I can’t stop thinking about the fact that, somehow, Last Dance also reminds me of The Tallest Man On Earth if he turned electronic. I know, you may think that I lost my mind. But bare with me on this, ok? The melody before the chorus totally share the same vibe of certain TTMOE’s soundscapes and, after having listened to this stripped down live take of the track, I’m quite sure my thought will sound a little less crazy.

Speaking on the track to The Line Of Best Fit RHYS – who is signed to Warner and is actively collaborating with Swedish veteran songwriter Jörgen Elofsson (Britney, Kelly Clarkson) – said: “‘Last Dance’ is a bittersweet love song. What I love about it is the way it manages to tell a sad story all the while being accompanied by happy music. Of course, this song can be interpreted in many different ways, depending on the listeners own experiences – but to me it’s about knowing that the end of a relationship is near and being willing to except the consequences because you did your best to save it.
