Rationale – Something For Nothing

This is Rationale‘s year, no doubt on that. I could even bet my own money on the London-based singer, if only I were not so damn broke! I realize he already achieved a lot through his debut EP Fuel To The Fire, but the guy’s potential is limitless. Premiered yesterday as the Hottest Record on Annie Mac’s BBC1 Radio show, Something For Nothing represents yet another step forward for Rationale, a classic soul tune tainted by a rich, modern production that frames his insane baritone vocals.

The Zimbabwe-born singer/producer gave an exhaustive explanation of the origins of this song: “‘Something for Nothing’ is a groove based disco tinged love song written about someone I know. I was listening to a lot of Prince and watching Marvin Gaye/ Quincy Jones documentaries around the time I wrote it. I’m a big bass-line fan so when I wrote this one, I knew exactly where I wanted to take it.
