Premiere: Melwonder – Years

We are in the wake of Melissa Putland, a.k.a. Melwonder, for quite some time now and we can’t be more pleased today to host the premiere of her new single, Years. Pointing Radiohead and BANKS as sources of inspiration, the Melbourne-based popstress proves to know how to mix the traditional side of pop with the complexity and the charm of modern R&B, although Years delves into a even darker path, reminiscent of Lorde and FKA Twigs’ early works.

Melissa founded her solo project Melwonder (formerly Melwonderland) to escape from a turbulent childhood. She taught herself piano and guitar at the age of 13 and subsequently she learnt production skills around her twenties. Her first demos caught the attention of Grammy Award winning producer Joel Little and Parker Ighile (Pink Friday Records), whom helped Melissa to unleash her overflowing musical creativity. She currently supported Johnny Rollins in his tour around Australia, while also keeping booking gigs in and around the Melbourne area.

Speaking on the track, Melissa states: “This song took me back to a really sad time in my life where I faced a lot of judgement/disapproval for a decision I made. It was very therapeutic to write this song from my point of view and share my side of the story”.

Despite there are no information about the upcoming release of a debut album, we’re pretty sure we’ll hear more from Melwonder in the next future. Meanwhile, enjoy Years below.
