Nilüfer Yanya – The Florist
The Florist is the new single from 21-year-old London-based singer/songwriter Nilüfer Yanya and it’s everything we expected and hoped for to follow her debut EP Small Crimes. Driven by sharp guitar licks with not much more on the instrumental side, the track knows how to convey unfiltered emotions thanks to Yanya’s bold and full-of-nuances vocal delivery.
Speaking on the track to TLOBF, Nilüfer said: “I wrote ‘The Florist’ when I realised properly for the first time that things don’t last forever but I was still in denial about things having to end. Really I was chasing something that didn’t even exist; just a feeling, a kind of high.”
Splitting her roots in Turkey, Ireland and Bajan, Nilüfer Yanya grew up in London mentored on guitar by The Invisible’s Dave Okumu. The past summer she travelled to Athens to set up a charitable organisation, ‘Artists In Transit’, with her sister Molly Daniel, in order to help them entering Europe. Recently, she launched a zine, ‘My Friend’, to raise funds for their work.
