Miya – Talking With Strangers

Being an intimate, delicate songwriter could be the hardest way to be recognized as a great artist. Hiding behind a catchy beat will never be an option, if lyrics & guitar are your only friends. But when things start to get real, it means that you’re doing something special.

Miya is the most recent example. Raised in California in a Buddhist family, she brought the spirituality of religion into her songs, blending it with her classical music study (she has been in choirs as well) and the more modern influences like Joni and Sharon Van Etten. Talking with Strangers is her latest effort, a folkish tune that grows among Miya’s evocative voice in a crescendo of guitar-licks and overwhelming drums. It’s just the first of an upcoming series of singles, but if you can’t wait to hear more, just check Miya’s Soundcloud to discover a more stripped-down side of this talented singer/songwriter.
