Mitski – Townie / I Don’t Smoke

Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter Mitski is ready to release her third record in three years. Her prolificienty and her skills as a songwriter have been caught this time by Double Double Whammy (Radiator Hospital, Quarterbacks, Frankie Cosmos), which will release her new album Bury Me At Makeout Creek on November 11th.

In a couple of weeks, Mitsky has followed First Love /Late Spring, the first excerpt from the record dropped in May, with two new samples, both of which sounding very promising. Townie is a catchy noise-pop tune where Mitski releases all her extreme, dark-humor lyricism (“I want a love that falls as fast as a body from the balcony and I want a kiss like my heart is hitting the ground“). Otherwise, I Don’t Smoke is a visceral, reverberated fuzz-ballad about a love story that you know is deeply flawed for you, but you aren’t able to let go.

Finding an artist so talented in using words is an hard job nowadays. When this happens, you have to pay attention. Listen below.
