Mabel – Know Me Better

Mabel is the 19-year-old daughter of Neneh Cherry and Massive-Attack producer Cameron McVey. Born near Malaga, she was raised between Spain, London and Stockholm. In the latter, she studied production and music theory at college until last year, when she came back to London ready to start her musical career. She just released her first single Know Me Better, an impressive Lauryn Hill-inspired tune in which we get acquainted for the first time with her bright, soulful voice.

She said to The Fader, which premiered the song: “When you first get to know someone you don’t want to let that person see your weaknesses, but in a way you’ve not really shown them your whole self until they’ve seen the rough edges. ‘Know Me Better’ is about losing layers of pretension and control, and letting your guard down. It felt like the right track to come with first for so many different reasons, but I think the title kind of says it all: I would like people to get to know me and I’m hoping that will happen through my music.
