Lizzy Land – Sweet Melodies

Portland native, Los Angeles based popstress Lizzy Land is not exactly a newbie. She was a member of Mating Ritual and collaborated with several artists and producers, such as Littlemore (Empire of the Sun, Pnau) and Matt Linesch (Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes), before meeting her musical soulmate Suede James, with whom she’s currently working on her debut EP.

Sweet Melodies is a great introduction to the project, a sparkling pop bubble in which the extra catchy electronic-drenched production and Lizzy’s expressive singing coexist extremely well. Speaking on the track, Lizzy said: “Writing ‘Sweet Melodies’ was a way for me to express the trepidation I (and possibly many in my generation) feel at the beginning stages of life and love. I think too much. I question everything. I can’t ever fully make my mind up when dealing with such heavy clouds. I hoped to reflect a feeling of resistance in the core structure of the song, relying less on clever verbiage and instead experimenting with sound, texture, and nuance. There’s a clear message woven into a wavering melody. The intro meant to be a slow tip-toe, each verse a revelation, and the bridge/outro an unapologetic rambling release. It’s common for us to overlook our own convictions, but so very rare to fully feel and admit to them. At a glance, ‘Sweet Melodies’ may be heard as a straightforward love song, but its overall intention is to speak vastly to our many feelings of uncertainty.

In this song and those to follow, I’m exploring various ideas and techniques to express emotions on a deeper level that reflect the heart of my music. Excited to apply these ideas to my live show, which I’m aiming to have ready in a few months.
