Lewis Capaldi – Bruises
Pretty much eveyrone who follows Spotify’s main playlist New Music Friday (and all its local counterparts in France, UK, Germany, Italy etc..) had the chance the past week to meet an amazing artist: Lewis Capaldi. His debut single Bruises is one of those tracks that instantly gives you the feeling of being in the presence of someone special. It’s a sparse piano ballad where all the peaks are triggered by Capaldi’s gritty, insane vocals, which are in fact the major driver of the tune and ranges from baritone to falsetto without any apparent effort.
As Capaldi explains, the song looks back on a failed relationship a few months removed: “At times your memory of an old relationship will be clouded and you’ll only seem to remember the best parts of being with someone. Completely ignoring the reasons why things came to an end makes the idea of holding on to it or wanting to go back to it seem more enticing than it actually is.”
