Leon Bridges – Coming Home / Better Man

“Chuck! Chuck, it’s Marvin. Your cousin, Marvin Berry. You know that new sound you’re looking for? Well, listen to this!”

Leon Bridges, somewhere down his life, probably stole a time machine. He didn’t bring a new sound in the past as Marty McFly did, but he took the opportunity to steal the secrets of people like Sam Cooke and Elvis. This singer/songwriter from Fort Worth, Texas, describes his music as “blending southern soul and gospel” and there’s really not a better way to do so.

While Kiwanuka has explored the soul/blues side of black music roots, Leon Bridges has focused his sound on the essence of rock’n’roll , giving a fresh touch to that retro-rock style from the late-Fifties / early-Sixties. Listen to Coming Home, it seems to hear an updated version of Love Me Tender. Truly magnificent.

Leon Briges is one of a kind and bound to success. Listen to Coming Home and to the equally marvellous Better Man below.
