Lazy Day – With My Mind

Interestingly enough, when this song came into my headphones, I wasn’t actually paying attention to who the artist was. As soon as the beautiful reverby atmosphere came in though, I was captivated. With the sudden transition at 00:24, a discordant but raw guitar and bass line, I was won over. With My Mind is the latest track released by London dreamy-grunge quartet Lazy Day, and I had the pleasure to discover and meet them in September with the hypnotic song Disappear. Well, that’s what this work is: a new translation of decade-old mainstream dream-pop, overwhelming feelings of semi-ambient summer nostalgia and polished harmonies. Despite the passage of several months, the band maintains high standards, mixing shoegaze and dream pop as only the best Wild Nothing could do.

Via email the band said: “It’s funny because ‘With My Mind’ has been in the world for three years, but I’m even more excited about it now than I was back then. ‘With My Mind’ felt like a turning point, both in the way that I wrote and recorded music, and in my personal life too. I think that’s why the song has stayed really important to me, because it signifies how Lazy Day started, and now what it’s become. It’s shown me that feeling sad and grim can change into feeling strong.
