Lawrence Rothman – Wolves Still Cry

It has been a long run, but Lawrence Rothman is finally getting there. The uber talented multi-instrumentalist, producer, songwriter and visuals artist from Los Angeles has announced the release of his highly anticipated debut album The Book Of Law and shared the first excerpt out of it, an intricate and charming art-pop song called Wolves Still Cry. Rothman’s baritone voice dances above multi-layered instrumental production, with their interaction enhanced by funk-ish bass lines, airy synths and elegant backing vocals provided by How To Dress Well.

In fact the record, which is due out for release on October 13th via Downtown/Interscope Records, will feature an impressive list of artist, with whom Lawrence had no prior relationship, called by him and producer Justin Raisen (Sky Ferreira, Angel Olsen, Charli XCX, Health, Kim Gordon) following late night recording sessions by the two wondering who would be the best match for each track. So they secured contributions from the likes of Marissa Nadler, Angel Olsen, Kristin Kontrol, Carla Azar (Autolux), Pino Palladino (D’Angelo, NIN, The Who), Stella from Warpaint, Duff McKagan (Guns N’ Roses), Dennis Hamm (Thundercat) and How To Dress Well. Pardon my French, but holy shit!

Each song from the album will come together with an official video, self-directed by Rothman himself and with the creative direction of the great Floria Sigismondi (who worked with Bowie among the many). You can watch the first one below.
