Joy Again – How You Feel

Philly-based band Joy Again already made a great impression on us (and on Shamir and Lucky Number too!) thanks to their debut single Looking Out For You. How You Feel is its counterpart on the double A side debut single of the young five-piece and it sounds really different from the first offering, highlighting new shades of the band’s music and a great potential. The weird indie-rock afflatus of the first single is completely blown away by mesmerizing psych-pop vibes, while bandleader Arthur Shea sings about the struggle of being in love with a girl and not knowing how to approach her: “When we stopped / I didn’t have a chance / To say a single thing / And I have no confidence.” Shea also said that the track is about: “my inability to speak to this girl I was infatuated with at the time.” Eventually, How You Feel is a melancholic psych-ballad that also mixes influences from the greatest alt-folk outfits and reminds us very much of amazing Grizzly Bear.
