half/cut – Coming Of Age

After their first show ever, Melbourne-based dream-pop band half/cut was approached by an audience member, who defined them as “Cocteau Twins meets American Football”. Well I really hope that the guy was hired by the band as their publicist, ’cause I can’t think to a better definition for these five newcomers. Coming Of Age is the first single off half/cut’s debut LP and it perfectly fits that enlightened definition. Indeed, the song blends dreamy, indie-pop vocals with emo-rock instrumental parts, thus creating an highly emotional vibe from which it’s impossible not to get affected. Coming of Age was recorded by Neil Thomason (Augie March, My Disco, Crayon Fields) at Head Gap studios in August this year and then mastered by Harris Newman (Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Arcade Fire) at Grey Market Mastering, Montreal. Listen below.
