Fairchild – So Long And Thank You / High As A Kite

Faichild will never disappoint. That’s right people, the Australian six-piece band are back with a new catchy and dark synth-pop tune. So Long And Thank You is also the name of their upcoming debut album, out on August 4th via their own label called Canvas Sounds.  I’ll cut right to the chase: this song is completely fantastic. Three seconds and I’m hooked. Actually they are not a newcomers in this site (and not even in the independent music scene), but I have to say that all their tracks have something special in their sounds and/or lyrics. In this case, the song was written after Faichild’s guitarist Tim Voeten lost his father, so the influences are predominantly dark and sad.

About the song Voeten said: “When I hear this song, of course I think about my Dad, but I also remember that it helped cement in me my love for making music with these people. During those long nights in the studio, I knew it was okay to not be okay

Just by coincidence, while I was typing all those words above, Fairchild dropped a new track off the record, just to confirm how good they are and how right I was. The song is built around crooked guitar riffs, uplifting synths and infectious melodies, which inevitably lead to yet another great chorus of theirs.

Speaking on High As A Kite Adam Lyons states, “I first wrote High As A Kite on piano and it sounded quite sweet. But by the time we were in the studio, the track had morphed into this sort of passive aggressive anthem. I could detect this vein of anger running through the whole song. There was nothing about it that made you want to pump your fist or break something. It’s the sort of anger you swallow every time you have to bite your tongue and think something instead of saying it. The anger you hold back.
