DYLYN – American Nightmare

DYLYN is the new project of Canadian singer/songwriter Gwendolyn Lewis. We featured her debut track Mimosa a while back and now she has unveiled its follow-up, American Nightmare. The track is made of analog synths, aggressive rock textures with a clear pop sensibility and outstanding vocals; it reminds me of artists like La Roux, Charli XCX and LPX, or better a mix of all of them.

The song comes together with a statement from the Toronto based artist: “My generation is much more in tune with our emotions and who we are than past generations. Some choose to take a traditional path in life, settle down, get married and have kids, which is cool. But, I always felt as though life was sketched out a little different for me. The ‘American dream’ isn’t the same as it used to be. There is no age limit, gender, or rules that apply to what we have to do in life.

‘American Nightmare’ is about setting your own path and playing by your own rules. I don’t know what the future holds for me, but for now I’m still figuring out who I am and exploring this crazy path I’m on.
