Deers – Bamboo / Trippy Gum

We don’t precisely know why, but we can recall just a few Spanish bands that released something that got us really excited lately. And none of those – with the only exception of Delorean, maybe – won our resistance from the very start. So, it was sort of a surprise to find ourselves in love at first sight (read: listen) with the demos by Madrid-based girl duo Deers. Bamboo and Trippy Gum are, indeed, pretty much perfect. Ana Garcia Perrote and Carlotta Cosials make highly reverbered, raw, slackery surf-pop that’s obviously influenced by the Californian analogous outcome, but also possess a sticky bubblegum edge (which nods to the Latino twee-pop tradition, I guess). That’s exactly what makes their music so special. In a scene that’s saturated and basically monochrome, Deers have found a way to sound “personal” enough. Expect great things from this pair of girls, then. Meanwhile, listen to Bamboo and Trippy Gum below.
