COURTS – Glass Half Empty

We’re experiencing a strong comeback of funk music in every possible way. Acts like WHITE, Flyte, Fickle Friends, Love Ssega have revived a genre that had been retained too much to the past until a few years ago. But today things have changed and future-funk, electro/synth funk and now funk/rap are real things and we have to deal with them. Essex five-piece COURTS are something new and kind of unique, blending a heavy guitar-infused sound with rap and hip&hop, on the heels of what Only Real did in the last two year, but with an inflection that deviates from the typical slacker sound of the London’s artist and instead heads towards moder funk music. Glass Half Empty, their latest single, is just the ultimate example and its groove can be described in one way only: irresistible.
