Coast Modern – Animals

Following up the huge success of their debut single Hollow Life, Los Angeles synth-pop duo Coast Modern are back with a new song, Animals, that is a candidate from the start to be labeled as “anthem”. It’s a sun-kissed song that mixes elements of tropical pop like castanets and brass with all the ingredients to create a perfect indie-rock tune, such as an exuberant bass line and an elegant guitar riff, all backed by a thumping “oooh” chorus in the background. Part Animal Collective, part Alt-J, part Arcade Fire, Animals is that kind of song that easily gets under your skin and no longer leave you.

Speaking with Pigeons And Planes, Coast Modern said: “Most of the lyrics and production came to us in a big wallop in one afternoon. ’Animals’ poses questions I think we all ask ourselves about what we’re doing with our lives, and explores the struggle between animal desires and actualization of a higher self. There’s freedom in the fact that no one knows exactly what we’re all doing here, so we can make up the rules as we go along.
