Cloves – Better Now

Last year, Melbourne-native singer/songwriter Cloves amazed us with her debut EP XIII, a collection of beautiful stripped down ballads. It took more than a year to hear her voice again, but finally she’s back with a new track, Better Now, as a prelude to her highly anticipated debut album. This new track throws the listeners into a new dimension of Cloves’ music, where kicking drums and shouting “whooo’s” are there to strengthen the otherwise sparse bluesy soundscape drawn by the Aussie songstress, whose voice stands out bolder than ever.

Speakin on Better Now, which she wrote with her long-time collaborator Justin Parker (BANKS, Bat For Lashes etc.), Cloves said: “I swear that I’m better now is written almost sarcastically, to move the conversation on” explains the singer-songwriter, continuing “I had given up trying to talk about how I was feeling and instead started distancing myself. The lyrics touch on the internal conflict I was having about weighing up if a long term relationship was still working, the back and forth between obligation to someone and the desire to be alone.
