Cathedrals – Don’t Act Like a Stranger

It’s been a while since the last time we heard from Cathedrals. In 2014 the San Francisco-based duo released a wonderful debut EP, which was followed the following year by its remix EP Blush. So, we’re quite happy to be finally able to share a new original song from the alt-pop duo. Don’t Act Like a Stranger revives our love for Brodie Jenkins’ sugary voice, which returns here at its best topping a sparkling soundscape that feels like Spring already, thanks to a perfectly-balanced mix of punchy guitars, warm synth hooks and intricate pop textures.

The lyrics goes in the opposite direction though, ss the band explained: “We wrote ‘Don’t Act Like a Stranger” while we were in two very different places in life, one joyous and the other painful. If you listen closely, you can hear those opposing forces at play. It is the first chapter of our new body of work and in many ways a culmination of our experiences during the year we spent underground writing the new music. ‘Don’t Act Like a Stranger’ is about yearning and hope and heartbreak and joy. It’s a song for long drives and electric skies. We hope you love it as much as we do.
