Bruce Smear – Pick & Roll

Tommy Davidson is a member of Beach Fossils, but if you’re expecting more jangly guitar-pop from his solo-project, then you’ll most certainly be disappointed. What he does as Bruce Smear is rip-roaring, genre-bending electronic music. On Pick & Roll, an excerpt from the artist’s upcoming EP, you’ll find lucid synths, hyperactive break-beats and the weirdests of samples, something that hails from UK clubs and something that nods to off-kilter techno, something that recalls the golden ages of ghetto house and something that could come from one of the golden minds that make the roster of PC Music. Is this the most compelling track you’ll hear this week? Yeah, probably.

Bruce Smear’s Chlorine EP is out later this year via Driftless Recording. Pre-order it here.
