BIRTHDAY – What You Give To Me

BIRTDHAY*, the new lo-fi pop duo formed by Fake Laugh’s Kamran and Luka and signed to WEDIDIT (PURPLE, RL Grime, Ryan Hemsworth, Shlohmo and more), recently dropped their sophomore single What You Give To Me, a really fine example of magic chemistry that has arisen between the two artists. Luka’s softened production draws a nostalgic yet warm soundscape that reminds me of the work of artists such as Foxes In Fiction or Ricky Eat Acid and perfectly matches with Kamran’s smooth vocals.

The song comes together with a video, directed by Berlin-based Felix Aaron. The director said about it: “I drew my inspiration from 80’s B-Horror- Movies, starring a modern femme fatale trying to harvest young men in a Dario Argento dark ritual kind of vibe. As the visual aesthetic of the video is more like a modern interpretation of this topic, we join the young woman contacting her victims online, luring them with her looks, alcohol and weed to take them back to her lonely cabin outside the city.

*not to be confused with Duran Visek’s project birthday.
