Billie Eilish – Bellyache
Billie Eilish is the kind of act who can make indie bloggers happy and a major label richer. She’s only 15, she has tons of talent, she’s beautiful and she does pop. Her latest single Bellyache moves away a bit from her previous releases (there is still her brother/producer Finneas O’Connell on her side, but here everything sounds more expensive, smart and less Hype Machine-pop). Opening as a sort of country songs from a cool road-trip movie, electro layers appears then in the hook that, with its druggy sounds and that intoxicating lopsided bass, is definitely a killer one.
Speaking about the track, Billie explains: “When I write, I try to become different characters. You can write a song about being in love with someone, but you don’t have to be in love with anyone. You can write a song about killing someone, but you don’t have to have killed people. ‘Bellyache’ is about doing one of those things but it’s mostly about regret and guilt. Becoming a character can be really fun; to put yourself in a place you would never really be.”
