Arc Iris – Singing So Sweetly

Do you think that a former NASA employee could have other passions besides stars and mathematics? Answer is yes if that former NASA employee is also a former member of The Low Anthem.

Jocie Adams decided to start her solo as Arc Iris – together with Zach Tenorio-Miller (keys), Mike Irwin (trumpet), Ray Belli (drums), Max Johnson (bass) and Nora Fox (voice, flute) – in 2011, but her first offering only came out last November, in the form of a stunning cover of Fiona Apple masterpiece Every Single Night for non-profit, human rights project The Voice Project.

The same Singing So Sweetly would appear to be very close to Apple’s musical output. It’s the first single from Arc Iris’ self-titled debut album (out on March 31 via Bella Union) and we couldn’t describe it better than how Bob Boilen of NPR All Songs Considered did: “it’s somewhat cabaret, somewhat orchestral folk, a bit of show tune and jazz band”.

Watch the Anne Beal-directed video for the song. It features an animated version of the aforementioned cabaret.
