Video report: SXSW 2015

5 days, 50 showcases, 20 pizza slices, countless tallboys and times I had to show my ID at every single venue entrance (as a European I’ll probably never get used to it!), 40-something walked miles, 10 Uber rides, 5 amazing margaritas, 2 rainy days, 1 Bill Murray in the audience of Tei Shi at Stubb’s.

SXSW is a festival where almost thirty bands play at the same venue on the same day and every show is perfectly right on time. It might sound messy; still, it is pretty far from being like any other music festival since most of the stages are very small, and so you can have the perfect gig maniac experience and maybe bump into a few artists in the crowd (I saw Shamir more than once enjoying some live sets) – or while waiting in line for the bathroom (like the lovely VÉRITÉ) – and have a nice quick chat with them.

Hype Hotel was the perfect place for chilling and filling your tummy with one dollar tacos while listening to the most buzzed-about acts: Yumi Zouma (their gear was stolen right before the gig but they decided to perform anyway a kind of unplugged set), Hinds, Chestity Belt, Odesza, San Fermin, Amason, Leon Bridges..

Pitchfork Party 1 at Mohawk was just unforgettable. Having the chance to see some of my favourite bands of the last two years while standing in the front row (I’ll just name a few: Torres, Natalie Prass, Lydia Ainsworth, Courtney Barnett) and partying with Sophie, Shamir and AG Cook was simply great.

But it’s not all about the official shows; unofficial ones are amazing too, like Burger Festival at Hotel Vegas, Panache at Hole in the Wall, Impose Magazine Party at Longbrunch Inn, because you can discover some bands that have just formed and are now blooming.

My highlights of the festival were Twin Shadow‘s special set curated by his art director exclusively for Tumblr Irl and the day performances of Ibeyi, Ryn Weaver, Tobias Jesso Jr and BØRNS at The Spotify House. Can’t wait to be back next year.
