Klangstof – Hostage

When the guys over at Mind of a Genius chose the name of their label, they were probably referring to themselves. With a roster that already counts on Grammy-nominated producer ZHU, Gallant and They, the Californian label is now home also to Dutch singer/songwriter Klangstof, who debuted yesterday on Zane Lowe’s Beats1 radio show his stunning new single Hostage.

Raised in Norway and with a history as bass player of Moss, Klangstof (‘klang’ means echo in Norwegian and ‘stof’ dust in Dutch) cites Radiohead’s Ok Computer as a seminal influence of his work. And, we have to admit it, Hostage benefits from these inputs in its first half, when the delicate vibes that it conveys matches perfectly with the singer’s slight falsetto. However, the second half of the track turns to be an instrumental post-rock/experimental tail, making it clear that he surely has more than one strings to his bow.
